Upper West Side Locksmith & Keys

Lock Rekeying — Upper West Side Locksmith

Rekeying locks on the Upper West Side — one key for the whole apartment, old keys retired. Call (646) 469-7112.

Rekeying is the fastest, most affordable way to take control of your keys. Upper West Side Locksmith & Keys changes the internal pins of your existing locks so every old key — previous tenants, old roommates, long-gone contractors — stops working, and one fresh key opens everything.

It is the first thing we recommend after a move, a roommate change, or a lost key, and it works on deadbolts, knobs, and most mortise locks. We arrive with pinning kits for Mul-T-Lock, Schlage, Medeco, Yale, Kwikset, and more, and we cut you as many new keys as the household needs.

Frequently asked questions

How is rekeying different from replacing?

Rekeying changes the lock's internals so old keys stop working — the hardware stays. Replacing swaps the whole lock. Rekeying costs less and is ideal when the hardware is in good shape.

Can you rekey all my locks to one key?

Usually yes, as long as the locks share a compatible keyway. We check on arrival and make it work in the vast majority of apartments.

I just moved in. Should I rekey?

Absolutely — it is the single most important security step after a move. You have no idea how many copies of the old keys exist.

Do you rekey mortise locks?

Yes. Many Upper West Side pre-war apartments run on mortise hardware, and we rekey their cylinders routinely.

Will my landlord or board mind?

Rekeying does not change the door's appearance or hardware, so it is almost always permitted. In co-ops, keep a copy for management as your rules require.
